Policy & Procedures for PhD Progress Reporting (3/23/2005)

Each semester, the Graduate Committee will send out a "PhD Progress Report" form to each active PhD student. This status report is designed to document the progress the student has made toward the completion of their degree, in particular, highlighting the progress made since the last report. The status report will list the completed milestones, a short narrative of progress made during the last semester, and the expected goals to be accomplished in the nest time period. The student will present the completed Progress Report to his / her major professor (or to the temporary advisor, if a major professor has not yet been selected), for signature. Once signed, the completed form will be placed in the student's academic folder.

The primary purpose of the Progress Report is to require the PhD student to account for progress made toward completion of the degree each semester, to provide an opportunity for the student and advisor to discuss the student's progress in the last time period, and to require the student to plan for the next step toward completing their degree.
